The seas are full of shipwrecks with hazardous cargoes which form potential time bombs, and their number is only increasing. Based on our ISO 14000 certification and expertise, Biga Group has an excellent track record in environmental protection operations. During our salvage operations we always take measures to prevent pollution. Based on this track record and our innovative solutions we have been awarded a prestigious contract to recover a wreck with a cargo of extremely toxic mercury.

Salvage is the first line of defense against marine pollution when major casualties occur. The Biga Group salvage team has prevented the spillage of millions of tons of oil, chemicals and bunkers threatening vulnerable coastlines and marine environments. Biga Group has been instrumental in developing and implementing new technologies and strategies for the safe, pollution-free removal of cargo and bunkers from wrecks, including the use of hot-tap technology for spill-free extraction of potentially harmful fluids either above or below the waterline.
